After arriving at RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic, players are greeted by an unpopulated theme park. A versatile assistant will assist players throughout the game, including by growing or expanding the player's theme park over time. The first task is to rebuild the most important areas of the game to generate the first revenue; this is a lengthy and difficult process. Creating a theme park requires careful investment of resources. This process is broken down into different phases that players can customize with multi-tools and an Artificial Intelligence. As each phase begins, the park provides services like a welcome center and first aid rooms for weary theme park attendees. Different types of constructions units require specific amounts of resources. Once the park is complete, these constructions provide continuous first-rate service.

The game's main objective is to create the most spectacular and groundbreaking roller coasters. Therefore, the game focuses solely on creating the rail systems and implementing many different styles and designs. This allows players to freely create unique and special roller coasters, including many novel designs that increase the theme park's income. Roller coasters are a marvel to behold— they can expand endlessly with little need for concern. They should be expanded with care, though, as running lines occasionally intersect. This means that each coaster can accommodate many unique styles and features. Some roller coasters even have additional features that can be upgraded and expanded to accommodate more riders. Doing so also increases overall income.

In the original RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic, players can create manors and decorations. They can also add more themes to their park, such as roller coasters and other outstanding designs. By unlocking new units over time, players can create a more gorgeous theme park than the original.
