PreDiCHIP (Prevention of Diabetes among Chinese living in Prato) is a program of prevention of the development of the new
diabetes among the Chinese population residing in Prato. In China, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus is increased from 1% reported in 1980
to 10% in 2010. In the area of the Lawn, the prevalence of diabetes among the Chinese population in 2014 is 10% (Xu Y et al. JAMA
2013). The data emerged from the study the CHIP, led to the Lawn in 2014 by the University of Florence with the support of the Region of
Tuscany and of the Consulate of the people's Republic of China (Modesti PA et al. 2014), indicate that the prevalence of diabetes
type 2 in the Chinese population is 10% as against 5% in the adult Italian population. The high prevalence of prediabetes
fasting glucose > 100 mg/dL and <126 mg/dL) also suggests that in the absence of a proper prevention policy is
reasonable to expect a further growth of diabetes among the Chinese population with a consequent increase of
complications.
