Instead, players simply confront each other in a straightforward manner. When no one commands a fight, characters automatically seek out hiding places. They remain in their hiding spots unless someone issues them an attack command. This allows new characters to safely fire at enemies when no one is fighting. By contrast, characters in enemy lines face off at two fronts— each side has barriers that deflect bullets from the other. You can also evade detection by concealment; this helps you and your enemies avoid confrontation. When confronting an enemy, they’ll keep their location a secret by using obscure hiding places. You need to plan carefully when you decide to resist or attack— a well-executed strategy will lead to a victory. Movies often portray cowboys gunning down enemies in a single shot. However, turning this into a game is difficult. Each person has a certain amount of health that can be compromised only if they are shot in the head. If someone is shot in the body, they will only suffer half the damage. Some chapters in Dirty Revolver change the cowboys' horse racing legend. This happens when a cowboy uses his firearms and horseback skills during gun battles. Defeating enemies grants players control over the game, as well as permission to aim at enemy horse riders. However, avoiding enemy horse riders isn’t possible— only shooting people is allowed.

Before you defeat Wesley and destroy his family, you must prove yourself through many challenging trials. Each territory boasts dozens of distinct chapters. Each one features a series of difficult challenges that must be faced before moving on to the next one. The next phase unlocks when the game's Big Bosses emerge in a given region.

When facing the mafia, Dirty Revolver members need to upgrade their arsenals. This forces them to move through the game on their own because there aren’t enough allies to support them. In fact, this is one of the game’s key mechanics that makes it unique from other mafia games. Dirty Revolver currently features very few upgrades. The only in-game purchase you can make is additional extra powerful guns. Passing the challenge each time provides players with a monetary reward and allows them to upgrade their strength. Although this game includes many of the standard elements of a typical shooter, it doesn't provide as many options as other similar games. This is because the game's publisher only makes updates to a few specific aspects of the game. These include the stats for damage, fire rate and load time.
